RAWALPINDI, Aug 30: Tussle between a revenue clerk and a deputy superintendent of police (DSP) over the investigation of a murder case not only led to the transfer of the DSP but also of the senior superintendent of police (SSP) operation Rawalpindi, Dawn has learnt.

First the DSP Cantonment Circle Ishtiaq Shah was transferred to Gujranwala and then

Operation Rawalpindi Yasin Farooq was removed and ordered to report to the Central Police Office (CPO) Lahore.

DSP Ishtiaq Shah, who had sustained multiple injuries while trying to overpower the alleged shooter during the assassination of Benazir Bhutto outside Liaquat Bagh on December 27, was removed from his post and transferred to Gujranwala last week, while SSP Operation Yasin Farooq met a similar fate on Friday.

The source said a cold war between the revenue clerk and the DSP started when the latter directed his subordinate inspector, who was leading an investigation into a woman’s murder, to investigate the case on merit.

He said the SHO complained to the revenue clerk that his officer had ordered him to investigate all those involved in the murder case.

This irritated the revenue clerk who reportedly telephoned the DSP and exchanged hot words with him.

The DSP sent a report to the SSP Operation who served show-cause notice on the police inspector and sought an explanation, the source said. However, the revenue clerk managed to get both the senior police officers transferred.

People say the revenue clerk was an influential person and was behind the transfer of two senior police officers.

The police officers concerned were not available for comments.

However, a senior police official, on condition on anonymity, confirmed the incident and said the revenue clerk was behind the officers’ transfer.
