Jamali tight-lipped about his PHF role

BEIJING, Aug 21: The President of Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF) Mir Zafarullah Jamali on Thursday said he was deeply disappointed by the performance of Pakistan hockey team in the on-going Beijing Olympics.

“Like anybody back home and around the world, I am very much disappointed with the poor results given by our team in Olympics,” he told reporters at the Olympic Green Hockey Stadium after New Zealand thrashed Pakistan 4-2 in their classification match for 7th and 8th place.

“We were not expecting such a poor show in Beijing. But it has happened and it is part of history,” he said.

Pakistan slumped to their worst-ever eighth position in 15 appearances since London Olympics in 1948.

However, Jamali refused to comment on his own hockey future. “I will decide about it after I return home,” he said.

Jamali, PHF secretary Asif Bajwa and chief selector Islahuddin are due to leave for Islamabad on Friday. —APP
