DADU: Call for Arrest of killers

DADU, Aug 14: The Dadu police have failed to arrest the accused in the murder case of a TV journalist, Mohammad Azeem Leghari, and his relatives, protesters say.

Journalists and social workers observed token hunger strike outside press clubs in Dadu, Mehar, Khairpur Nathan Shah, Sehwan and Johi to protest against police for its failure to arrest the culprits.

Journalists took out a rally and staged a demonstration outside the Dadu press club on Thursday.

Speaking to the protesters, they said that police were using delaying tactics to arrest the killer(s) of journalist Mohammad Azeem Leghari and his two relatives Ali Hassan and Mashooq Leghari.

The protesters threatened to go on strike if the accused nominated in the FIR were not arrested. The shopkeepers would keep their business closed till the arrest of the accused in his murder case, they warned.

On the other hand, Dadu DPO Pervez Chandio constituted a team of senior police officers to arrest the accused in the case.

A delegation of Hyderabad Press Club have also arrived here and held meeting with journalists of Dadu.

They said the murder of Azeem Leghari was an example that police had failed to provide protection to journalists. However, they said, journalists were united on a single platform and would continue to perform their professional duties in any situation.

SP investigation Haji Sikandar Mangi said that police had raided at Put Gul Mohammad village and arrested one accused, Khan Leghari.
