HYDERABAD: ‘Freedom’ questioned

HYDERABAD, Aug 14: The activists of Berozgar Noujawan Tehrik staged a protest demonstration outside the press club on Independence Day on Thursday against unemployment.

The demonstration was led by leftist leader Comrade Jam Saqi, Nisar Chandio, Ghulam Rasool Memon and others.

Speaking on the occasion, they said that when the Independence Day was being celebrated throughout the country, the majority of people were living in abject poverty and suffering from hunger and disease.

“What sort of freedom is this,” they said while adding “when 75 per cent of population is living below the poverty line”.

They said the privatisation of national enterprises was the root cause of massive unemployment in the country.

They demanded that unemployed youths should either be given employment or the unemployment allowance.

They further demanded that the prices of essential consumer items should be reduced and subsidy on oil should be restored.

They raised slogans of “Jab Tak Janta Bhooki Hai, Ye

Azadi Jhooti Hai” (As long as people are hungry, independence is a hoax”.
