Balochistan bar assails PPP stance on judiciary

QUETTA, May 13: The executive committee of the Balochistan Bar Association has decided to send a memorandum to the United States and European Union over what it called their dual standards in creating hurdles in independence of the judiciary in Pakistan while favouring independent judiciaries for their own countries.

In a meeting presided over by Baz Mohammad Kakar here on Tuesday, the committee criticised Pakistan People’s Party’s stance on reinstatement of the deposed judges, saying that it was strengthening the presidency.

The committee announced that the lawyers of the province would observe a daily boycott of courts for one hour from May 14 to 16 and a complete strike on May 17.

It praised the Pakistan Muslim League-N and All Parties Democratic Movement and said their stand on the judiciary issue reflected the aspirations of the nation.

They urged the PML-N leadership to join the struggle of lawyers and members of the civil society for restoration of the pre-Nov 3 judiciary.
