Robbers kill doctor, decamp with Rs2.27m

LARKANA, May 8: A doctor of Chandka Medical College Hospital was killed by armed robbers in front of the Muslim Commercial Bank Lahori Branch, on Thursday.

According to police, Dr Dharmo Das of the Department of Radiology of Chandka Medical College Hospital after withdrawing Rs2.277 million from the National Saving Centre located at Bank Square was trying to transmit the amount online through the MCB, Lahori Mohalla Branch.

As soon as the doctor alighted from his car, three motorcyclists fired at him from the point blank range near main gate of the bank. He died on the spot while robbers decamped with the amount, SHO Civil Lines Assadullah Shaikh told Dawn.

Civil Lines police had picked up five persons, including the assistant manager and four guards of the National Saving Centre from where the deceased had withdrawn the money, police said.

Condemning the incident the PMA, Larkana called for early arrest of killers alleging the SHO’s involvement with criminals and demanded his replacement with an honest SHO. The PMA announced to boycott the Out Patients Departments (OPDS’) in all hospitals annexed with the CMCH on Friday and hold general body to protest the incident, Dr Memon said.
