‘Utility Store not selling flour to people’

DADU, March 17: People staged a demonstration outside the Utility Store here on Monday to protest against its officials for not selling wheat flour to common man.

They blocked Kutchery road which led to suspension of vehicular traffic.

They said that on the one hand, flour prices had risen to Rs25 per kilogramme in the open market and, on the other, the officials of Utility stores were not selling flour to common buyers.

They alleged that Utility Store officials were selling flour, ghee and other items to shopkeepers which, they said, was an injustice with poor people.

Elections: Annual elections of the Mehar chapter of the Sindhi Adabi Sangat, a literary organisation, were held on Monday.

Azad Anwar Kandhro was elected secretary-general, Saleem Magsi joint secretary, Nalay Mitho Mahesar treasure, Tahir Bhatti auditor and Pavel Juneejo councillor.

Johar Brohi, Abdul Sattar and Jani Chhutto were elected members of the business committee.

On the occasion, the Sangat members passed resolutions, demanding an investigation into assassination of PPP chairperson Benazir Bhutto under the United Nations, restoration of quota of students of interior Sindh in Karachi’s professional colleges and increase in time the PTV devoted to Sindhi programmes.
