BADIN: Properties worth Rs251m damaged in Badin riots

BADIN, Jan 14: Government and private properties worth Rs251,066,225 were damaged in five talukas of Badin district during two days of violence after the assassination of PPP chairperson Benazir Bhutto, official sources told PPI here on Monday.

They said the district administration has so far collected figures about losses of 121 government properties and 32 government vehicles and 83 private properties and 19 private vehicles.

The damaged properties of government included 10 courts, nine post offices, 22 LG offices, 22 banks, seven PTCL installations, four utility stores, three NADRA offices, five revenue offices, two education offices, three health offices, six agriculture offices, two Wapda offices, two SSGC offices, three W&S offices, seven Irrigation offices, 10 police offices, one food office, one community development centre and one EC office. The losses of these offices have been estimated to be Rs 140,122,726.

The damaged properties of private sector include 38 shops, 10 petrol pumps, four hotels, four mobile franchises, four guest houses, four bakeries, two residential houses, three rice mills, three cabins, two goods agencies, two showrooms, one cattle farm, one hospital, a franchise utility store, a flour mill, and three sugar-mill offices. The cost of these damages has been estimated to be Rs 95,042,049.

Of 32 government vehicles damaged in the violence, 10 belong to the health department, 11 to the police, seven to the LG department, two to the SSGC and one to the agriculture office.—PPI
