HYDERABAD, Dec 10: Many parts of the interior of Sindh receives first rains of winter season on Monday, causing a sudden rise in the cold the province is already experiencing for over a week due to Siberian winds.

It started in the evening and continued for about 30 minutes without break.

In Hyderabad, the airport meteorological office recorded 8.1 mm rain, maximum temperature at 28 degrees Celsius and minimum at 12.5 centigrade while the ratio of humidity was recorded at 81 per cent at maximum and 48 per cent at minimum.

Water accumulated on roads and streets in various parts of the city and there were reports of power shutdown from many localities till the filing of this report.

People thronged shops selling used warm clothes in Faqir Jo Pir and Bacha Khan Chowk areas after sudden increase in cold in the wake of rains. It also rained in Jamshoro and Dadu districts and their adjoining areas.

Shikarpur and its adjoining towns and villages received first winter showers. According to growers the rain at this time of the year would be beneficial for Rabi crops particularly wheat and gram.

Weather turned chilly in Khairpur and many other parts of upper Sindh after the rain, which was followed by long spells of electricity shutdown badly affecting trade activities. The sudden increase in cold ratcheted up the prices of eggs and milk.

Roads in Mirpurkhas wore a deserted look after the city and its adjoining areas experienced first showers of the season forcing people to run to markets to buy warm clothes.
