ISLAMABAD, Oct 21: US Secretary of State Condaleeza Rice telephoned PPP chairperson Benazir Bhutto on Sunday and expressed sympathy over the loss of innocent lives in an attack on her rally.

According to a press release, Ms Rice said she was heartened that Ms Bhutto had escaped the assassination attempt.

Ms Rice condemned the attack and expressed sympathies with the bereaved families.
