HARIPUR, Aug 25: The Ghazi Brotha Power Project has generated 26 billion units of electricity and earned Rs1.4 trillion since its operation some four years ago. Its establishing cost was Rs98 billion.
This was stated by GBPP chief engineer power Pur Dil Khan while briefing a group of journalists who visited the power house on Friday.
The chief engineer said the project, which started its operation in Aug 19, 2003, had five power generating units and each had a rated capacity of 290MW.
He said the project in total had an unchanged generating capacity of 1450MW which was the second biggest source of power generation on Indus River.
Mr Khan said the Ghazi Brotha project was being fed by a 52km-long concreted power channel that was carrying 56,000 cusecs of water constantly from the barrage built near Tarbela dam on run-of-the-river technique and the used water of the Tarbela power house was being reutilised for the project.
He said the electricity generated from the project was being supplied to Lahore, Rawat, Gatti, Faisalabad and Peshawar through 500KV and 220KV lines.
