KARACHI, March 6: A young man was shot dead by unknown assailants in Defence on Wednesday.

Police said the victim, identified as Talib Husain and aged 35, was going on a cycle at street no. 15 in Khayaban-i-Mujahid, DHA, Phase-5, when unknown gunmen opened fire at him and fled.

The victim suffered serious bullet wounds and was shifted to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre where he was pronounced dead by the medicolegal officer.

The inquiry officer of the case said that a driving licence was recovered from the victim’s pocket which suggested that he might be a driver at some bungalow.

Police said that the victim hailed from Okara where he had married Munnawar nine months ago. His wife was killed, allegedly by her brothers, as she had married the person of her choice.

Talib had nominated his brothers-in-law in an FIR lodged some five months back in Okara. One of his brothers-in-law is behind bars in Okara, while the other two are residing in Karachi.

The victim had arrived in the city just two days ago and was pursuing some lawyer in connection with the case, police added.

ARRESTED: The police arrested four suspects from Mominabad, Orangi Town, who have confessed to having killed several persons including the M.D. PSO, Shaukat Mirza.

Police said that the four suspects were arrested during different raids from Mominabad. They suspects were identified as Ajaz alias Samiullah, Zeeshan, Mahmood Babar alias Sabir and Arif.

The suspect Ajaz alias Samiullah was arrested during a raid in Urdu Chowk, Mominabad in the early house of # Wednesday morning.

Police said that during interrogation the suspect confessed to having killed the former M.D. PSO, Shaukat Raza Mirza and Dr Syed Rashid Mehdi.

Suspects Zeeshan and Mahmood Babar confessed that they had killed the principal of the Government Technical College, Orangi Town, Agha Gul, police said.

The police said that the fourth suspect, identified as Arif, admitted to killing the founder of Imambargh-i-Kausar. During the interrogation, he also admitted that he had killed a newspaper hawker and an official of a sensitive agency, the police added.

Police also claimed to have recovered arms and ammunition from their possession.
