Doctor, assistant shot dead

JHANG, June 30: A doctor and his assistant were shot dead while his nephew sustained serious injuries in an armed attack on his clinic in Athara Hazari village, 34 kilometres from here, on Friday evening.

According to police, Dr Rab Nawaz Baloch, the head of blood transfusion department at the Jhang DHQ hospital, was examining a patient at his private clinic in the village at about 7:30pm when three people, armed with automatic weapons, came there on a motorcycle. As they forced their way into the clinic, his assistant Ghulam Farid tried to stop them, they shot him dead.

Later, on entering the clinic, they asked the patients to leave and sprayed the doctor and his nephew Amir Abbas alias Husnain with bullets. They were taken to the DHQ hospital where Dr Rab Nawaz succumbed to his injuries late night while his nephew is stated to be out of danger.

Police have registered a murder case against the assailants later identified as Ghulam Hur, Aslam and Akbar.

Old family feud is stated to be the motive behind the murder.

Dr Rab Nawaz, who belonged to Jusa Balochan village, had served as medical officer of the Athara Hazari civil dispensary before joining the DHQ hospital.

Meanwhile, the doctors, led by Pakistan Medical Association’s Jhang president Dr Janjua protested against the murder of a colleague and blocked road by burning tyres on Saturday. They demanded immediate arrest of the killer.

FRATRICIDE: A man allegedly murdered his married sister and her paramour in Dollowana village, Ahmadpur Sail tehsil, on Friday. Farzana of Dollowana was married to Iqbal of Kalyarwala village. She developed relations with Sher Muhammad of her native village, separated from her husband and came back to her parents’ house. Her brother Fakhar Abbas saw her in a compromising situation with her lover and shot them to death.
