GUJRANWALA, May 16: A trader and his two minor sons who were kidnapped for ransom by four armed men from Satellite Town about three days ago were released after paying Rs6 million ransom and reached home early Wednesday morning.
Khalil Ahmad and his sons Saud and Hamad were kidnapped when they were on way home from Satellite Town. The kidnappers demanded Rs15 million ransom. They took them to Tribal Areas and allegedly sold them. The family contacted the kidnappers and struck a deal with them.
Meanwhile, unidentified people phoned a big industrialist and demanded Rs1 million forced (Jagga) tax and threatened him that they would kill him and his children if their demand were not met.
The business community is in panic after threats from criminals.
TRANSFERRED: The regional police officer transferred 305 assistant sub-inspectors who were posted in their home districts to other districts and issued notification here on Wednesday.
DIG Saud Aziz said 98 ASIs have been transferred from Sialkot, 78 from Gujrat, 33 from Narowal, 53 from Mandi Bahauddin and 47 from Hafizabad.
He said the process of transferring police officers from their home districts has been completed. During the first phase inspectors were transferred while in the second and third phases SIs and ASIs, respectively, he added.
