HOUSTON, April 12: Third seed Tommy Haas rallied to defeat Sam Querrey 3-6, 6-3, 7-5 in the opening round of the US Men's Clay Court Championships on Wednesday.

Haas converted five of 12 break points to defeat the 19-year-old Californian for the third straight time this season.Both players had a rough time serving, Haas connecting on 49 percent of his first serves while Querrey, who suffered his first opening round loss of the year, managed just 51 percent.

CHARLESTON (South Carolina): Serb Jelena Jankovic and Russian Dinara Safina, the top seeded players left in the Family Circle Cup, cruised into the last 16 on Wednesday.
