ISLAMABAD, April 10: Mystery shrouds the death of a couple —one gets killed and the other commits suicide— on Monday as police claim that the man committed suicide after murdering his girlfriend, while the autopsy report conflicts the police claim.
The incident occurred at a park near the Allahwala Market, in Sector F-8/1, where a young man and a girl were found dead.
The man was identified as Dawar Nadeem Ghori, 25, a third-year student of Gorden College, resident of Koyla Centre Saddar, and the girl as Aqsa Gill, 22, a first-year BPharmacy student at Hamdard University, resident of Dhok Elahi Bux.
The principal of a private school, Hajra, called Police Rescue-15 and informed them that two bodies were lying in the park.
The police reached the park and took the bodies to the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (Pims) for legal formalities and post-mortem.
The police are claiming that Ghori shot dead his friend, Ms Gill, shooting her on her forehead at point-blank range and later committing suicide.
A senior police officer told Dawn that the ‘suicide’ victim was left-handed and was found holding the weapon in his left hand when the body was discovered.
However, the mystery deepened as the medico-legal report suggested that the man suffered a bullet injury on the right side of his forehead. It was unnatural or rather impossible for a left-handed person to shoot himself on the right side of his forehead, the medico-legal officer, Dr Waseem Khwdja, told Dawn.
The ‘suicide’ victim’s right hand had a black spot, the doctor said, adding that the girl had received the fatal bullet on the left side of her forehead and her left hand was found to be burnt during the autopsy.
The medico-legal officer said it was difficult and against the nature that a left-handed person targeted a rival on the left side, except when the rival was standing or sitting on his right side.
The police recovered the weapon used in the crime —a 30-bore pistol— along with some rounds, a senior police official said, adding, that a suicide note was also recovered from the pocket of the young man.
The police official quoted the note as saying that, “I will end my life along with my female friend.” The note was probably written under a state of deep distress and the author seemed to be mentally disturbed, he added.
He said the police were yet to determine the owner of the weapon and whether it was licensed or not. He said some rounds were recovered from the pocket of the man, while two bullet shells were found near their bodies. The police quoted a man who saw them last, as saying that both were sitting on a bench under a red shade, arguing in a harsh manner.
The police said both the deceased were from the Christen community and were related to one another. Ghori’s father, Prevez Nadeem Ghori, worked at Askari Bank, while Ms Gill’s father was a musician of special students and worked in the National Institute of the Handicapped.
The police said both were involved in a relationship for the last three years, however, and only Ghori’s family members knew about this.
Ghori’s brother told the police that his brother wanted to marry Ms Gill but was waiting for his studies to end and find a job.
Preliminary investigations suggested that it was planned murder and suicide. However, no motive could yet be attributed to the incident, police said but it seemed that Mr Ghori was annoyed with Ms Gill, which angered him enough to take this extreme step.
The family members of both the deceased requested the police not to conduct autopsies and did not even want to register any complaint. They also contacted the deputy commissioner, Islamabad, in this connection. However, autopsies were conducted when the investigation officer of the case insisted.
