KARACHI: NED releases merit list
KARACHI, Nov 9: The NED University of Engineering and Technology has released the first provisional merit list for admissions to its various bachelor programmes for the year 2006-07.
Prof Dr Mahmood Khan Pathan, chairman of NED admission committee, told Dawn on Thursday that the list was available on the varsity’s website -http:// www.neduet.edu.pk- and has also been placed on the notice board at the main gate of the university.
This year, the varsity received 4,230 applications, out of which 3,748 were under the regular scheme and 482 under the self-finance scheme. As many as 1,494 admissions for 17 bachelor degrees, 15 engineering, including two new degrees- chemical engineering and materials engineering, one in architecture and one in computer science and information technology have been offered.
A total of 2,355 candidates, including 784 women, belonging to the Karachi board applied for admissions against 1,024 seats, while another 219 from Hyderabad board against 22 seats, followed by Mirpurkhas board-95 against 16 seats, Sukkur board-157 against 16 seats, Larkana board-88 against 16 seats, A-levels students (local)-12 against 16 and A-levels students (overseas)- none against 8. Besides, 531 applications were also received against 11 seats reserved for HSC (pre-medical) candidates.
The closing marks for different categories of students came as follows:
Karachi board-817 marks, Hyderabad-881, Mirpurkhas-880, Sukkur-881, Larkana-826, A-level local-825, A-level Overseas-641 and pre-medical-911 marks.
In addition to allocating a number of nomination seats, the NED varsity had also offered 154 seats under the self-finance scheme. The breakdown of seats and closing marks is as follows:
Karachi-110 seats (815), Hyderabad-7 (867), Mirpurkhas-6 (818), Sukkur-6 (812), Larkana-6 (729), A-levels (local)-11 seats (660) and A levels overseas-8(751.63).
