Murthy reaches semis in Seniors Tennis

KARACHI, Sept 17: Three players, including an Indian, propelled into semi-finals of 35 plus singles in the Pakistan International Seniors Tennis Championship late on Saturday at Karachi Club.

Murthy whipped Salim Siddiq 7-5, 6-3 to make it to the semis.

Those who joined him in the last four were Rizwan Shamsi and Zulfiqar Sarhadi.

The former chalked up a convincing 6-1, 6-1 victory over Naveed Godil while the latter overcame a tough resistance from Ejaz Sarhadi on his way to registering 6-4, 7-6 win.

Karim Gul Agha also surged into semi-final of 45 plus singles by handing straight 6-1, 6-1 defeat to Ashraf Admani.

Results:

35 plus singles: Second round: Murthy (India) bt Salim Siddiq 7-5, 6-3; Rizwan Shamsi bt Naveed Godil 6-1, 6-1; Zulfiqar Hakim bt Ejaz Sarhadi 6-4, 7-6.

45 plus singles (first round): Azharuddin bt Altaf Aziz 6-0, 6-4.

Second round: Karim Gul Agha bt Ashraf Admani 6-1, 6-1.

55 plus singles: Akbar Hayat Khan bt Channa Reddy 6-1, 6-1.
