LAHORE, Feb 10: The Punjab Auqaf Department will publish a compilation of the Quranic verses relating to human rights for highlighting the humanitarian aspect of Islam.
Punjab Minister for Revenue Malik Muhammad Aslam Khan said this on Sunday. He was speaking at a seminar on human rights, organized by the Hunza Youth Council, Allama Iqbal Town, here.
He said that the western concept of human rights did not conform to our local traditions and social values. Similarly the human rights reports released by the western countries presented exaggerated pictures of human rights scenario in the country.
The minister said that the Holy Quran enjoined the Muslims to respect the rights of other human beings like their own.
He called upon the ulema to promote awareness relating to the humanitarian aspect of Islam in the light of the Holy Quran and Sunnat from the pulpits of their mosques.
He said that the present government attached great importance to human rights and its policies had brought a marked improvement in the human rights situation in the country.
Extra-judicial killings had been stopped totally and more than 50,000 resourceless prisoners having no access to channels of justice had been set at liberty.
