ISLAMABAD: The Chief Election Commissioner, Mr. Justice Sajjad Ahmad Jan, has asked the revising authorities to avoid rigid application of instructions for receiving applications for correction of particulars of entries where the requests are found to be genuine, according to a Press note... . Such attitude was necessary as it would be very hard, particularly for the ladies, to attend in person... . The Press note said: It is no more necessary, for women particularly, to file in person applications for the correction of particulars relating to names in the electoral rolls.

[Meanwhile, as reported by news agencies from Colombo,] Bangladesh is moving an amendment in the draft political declaration of the fifth non-aligned summit on interference in the internal affairs of states which is obviously motivated by Dacca’s ... disputes with India. According to reliable sources, the draft seeks a firm commitment to the true independence of states and opposition to threats and pressures on them from any source.
