ISLAMABAD: A special committee on gallantry awards, chaired by Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi, on Saturday approved civil awards for martyrs who laid down their lives for the country and ghazis who displayed exceptional courage and bravery.

The committee approved civil honours for 78 individuals in various categories.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr Naqvi said recognising those who had sacrificed their lives for the nation and those who had demonstrated extraordinary valour was a national responsibility.

He said the nation was indebted to the eternal sacrifices of martyrs and ghazis. “The great sacrifices of martyrs and ghazis are the nation’s asset,” he added.
