SARGODHA: One of the abductors of a police constable was killed in an alleged encounter soon after the recovery of the constable on Saturday.

According to the Bhera police, four car riders attacked a police checkpoint and kidnapped a policeman Muhammad Owais, along with his official weapon.

According to sources, Constable Owais of Bhera Police Station and other police personnel were on duty at M2 interchange check post near Jhuggian when the car riders attacked the check post and kidnapped Owais. Later, Shahzad Nasir, known as Inam Wains, a resident of Salam, in his video statement, demanded the police take no action against him and his brother who was abroad. However, Bhera police registered a case against Shahzad, Waqas and two unidentified suspects.

Meanwhile, there were conflicting reports about the recovery of Owais. As per his close relatives, when the gang kidnapped the constable, they abandoned the vehicle within the limits of the Miana Gondal Police Station and took him to the forest. When the police traced the location and surrounded the forest, Owais managed to free himself from the clutches of the abductors.

Some sources on social media quoted Constable Owais as saying that when all kidnappers were drunk at 5am, he escaped on his own and made a call to the police. Later, Shahzad alias Inam Wains was killed in an alleged encounter whose details are sketchy.
