CHITRAL: Awami National Party MPA Khadija Bibi has demanded that the provincial government declare Chitral a calamity-hit region following massive devastation caused by recent flash floods in both Upper and Lower Chitral districts.
Speaking to mediapersons here on Saturday, the lawmaker highlighted the extensive damage inflicted on several villages, including Drosh, Sheshi Koh, Broze, Gahiret, Jughur, and Karimabad. She emphasised that the deluge washed away critical physical infrastructure, leaving communities vulnerable and disconnected.
“The affected people have lost their homes, lands, and primary sources of sustenance to the floods,” Khadija Bibi stated. She said that the scale of the disaster warranted an immediate emergency declaration by the provincial government, alongside the approval of a special relief package to mitigate the intense suffering of the displaced residents.
The ANP leader said that she had already presented a resolution in the provincial assembly to press the government to initiate relief measures immediately, warning that any hesitation in launching rehabilitation efforts would deepen the crisis in the region.
