DERA GHAZI KHAN: Sufi singer and Qawwal Ustad Noor Muhammad Nizami passed away after battling lung complications for over a month. He was 86.
Born in 1940, Ustad Noor belonged to the family of Qawwals of Taunsa. His forefather Mian Ahmad was brought from Mahar Sharif in Sialkot to Taunsa by Khawajah Shah Sulaiman Taunsavi of the Chishti order. For seven generations, his family remained devoted to the shrine of Taunsa.
Ustad Noor began his music career at the age of seven, singing at Mahmoodia Taunsa shrine. He was trained by his uncle, Ghulam Sarwar and was a master of Ghazal, Kaafi and Qawwali.
