SAHIWAL: In a joint operation, the Punjab Enforcement and Regulatory Authority (Pera) and the district civil defence department raided an LPG plant near Yousafwala, sealing the facility and imposing a fine for multiple violations.
The action was taken against an LPG plant owned by Abdul Sattar after authorities found several irregularities, including overpricing, illegal cross-filling of cylinders belonging to other companies, violations of Ogra regulations, inadequate safety measures, failure to provide gas inflow and outflow data to the relevant departments, and the use of unauthorised and malfunctioning machinery for filling and refilling LPG cylinders.
Pera district head Nouman Qasir told Dawn that the plant was inspected by a technical team before the sealing order was issued. Acting on a tip-off, the joint team conducted the raid and confirmed the violations.
He said the plant was fined Rs100,000 and would remain sealed until all deficiencies are rectified and certified by a technical team. Civil defence district head Qasir Adnan said the facility has a storage capacity of 250 tonnes of LPG in six tanks installed on the premises.
GANGS: DPO Usman Tipu said police busted 150 criminal gangs during the past seven months, arrested 314 suspects, and recovered stolen property worth Rs4 billion.
According to police statistics, 466 drug traffickers were arrested during the period.
Recoveries included 15 kilograms of heroin, 516kg of hashish, 4.5kg of Ice, and 6kg of opium. Police also destroyed 13 active illegal liquor distillation sites.
