KARACHI: Three men riding a motorbike were run over and killed by a fast-moving truck on the city outskirts near New Subzi Mandi on Sunday afternoon, officials said.

A traffic police official said that the accident took place near Ayub Goth due to reckless driving of truck driver. As a result, all three persons on the motorbike sustained critical injuries. They were taken to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital where they died during treatment.

The victims were identified as Waqar Saleem, 50, his nephew, Habib Iqbal, 30, and Adeel Mustafa, 28.

The driver responsible for the fatal accident managed to escape from the scene, leaving behind the heavy vehicle that was impounded by the SITE-Superhighway Industrial Area police.

Police said that the victims were residents of Ahsanabad.

Three shot by robbers

Three labourers were shot at and wounded by armed robbers near the Steel Mills Bridge on National Highway on Sunday, according to police.

They said they were traveling in a rickshaw when four robbers riding two motorcycles signalled them to stop. However, the rickshaw driver hit one of the bikers, who fell while their accomplices opened fire and rode away. As a result of firing, Rustam Ali, 16, Irfan Arif, 20, and Manthar Khan, 45, suffered bullet injuries.
