KARACHI: Hasan Turabi, nephew laid to rest
His nephew Ali was buried in Wadi-i-Salam in Surjani Town after the burial of Allama Turabi.
Earlier, the funeral prayer offered at at Mehfil-i-Shah-i-Khurasan was led by Allama Sajid Naqvi, chief of the Shia Ulema Council, who had flown in this morning from Islamabad to attend the funeral.
Hundreds of people attended the funeral prayers of Hasan Turabi at Mehfil-i-Shah-e-Khurasan after the earlier announced venue of M.A. Jinnah Road was changed by the Shia Ulema Council citing fears of another suicide attack during funeral prayers. An announcement about these fears was made at Shah-i-Khurasan.
Amid charged atmosphere, mourners chanted slogans against the government and the United States as they carried the coffins draped in green and black sheets inscribed with Quranic verses.
Some of those attending the procession also carried banner condemning the US and praising Hezbollah.
Allama Sajid Naqvi briefly spoke to the people present there, urging the youths to show restraint.
Allama Sajid Naqvi charged that the federal and provincial governments had failed to maintain law and order in the country.
"A rule of jungle is prevailing in the country. There is no guarantee of life and property of the common people," Allama Naqvi said, adding that the government and its agencies were not serious in breaking the network of sectarian terrorists.
He alleged that terrorists were being patronised and protected by those who actually held the reins of power. "If terrorists involved in the attacks on Imabrgah Ali Raza, Nishtar Park congregation and other mosques, Imambargahs and religious personalities had been arrested, incidents like the assassination of Allama Turabi could have been averted," he added.
Son of the slain leader, Murtaza Hasan Turabi also called for restraint.
Following the prayers the coffins were transported to Abbas Town in a procession of ambulances and mourners, who raised various slogans along the way.
Political and religious leaders who attended the funeral included Prof Ghafoor Ahmed, Dr Mairajul Huda Siddiqui, Nisar Khuhro, Taj Haider, Saleem Zia, Furqan Haider Abdi, Maulana Mirza Yousuf Hassan and others.
