KARACHI: Suicide bomber carried 2.5kg explosives, pellets
This was told by IG Sindh Jehangir Mirza participants of a meeting held here at the office of the DIG (Operations) Karachi on Friday.
The IG Sindh ordered the authorities concerned to use Nadra’s databse to identify the suicide bomber and accelerate the pace of investigation after obtaining his DNA test reports.
He urged law-enforcement officers to investigate the incident from all angles and directed them to include all suspects.He ordered police officers to keep in touch with ulema for controlling the law and order situation in the city so that the police could use all its energies on investigating the incident.
Declaring ‘high alert’ in Karachi, the IG Sindh directed the police force to ensure security of all mosques, imambargahs and other places of worship in the province. He also ordered special security arrangements on the eve of the funeral of Allama Hassan Turabi.
The meeting was informed that a Russian-made hand-grenade had been recovered from the crime scene and that it had been defused by the bomb disposal squad.
The meeting was informed that Rangers would assist the police in maintaining security in the province.
The IG Sindh urged people to cooperate with the police and other law-enforcement agencies, adding that if anyone had any direct or indirect information about the incident, he should inform the police.
The meeting was attended by the CCPO of Karachi, DIGs (Operations), officers of the CID Special Branch, Investigation Zone I, II and other senior police officers.
The IG Sindh constituted an investigation committee to probe into suicide bomb blast, a police handout said.
The CCPO, Karachi, Niaz Ahmed Siddiqui, would head the committee while its other members would be DIGP (Investigation Zone-I) Manzoor Mughal, SP (Investigation Zone-II) Niaz Khoso, SP Anti-Violent Crime Cell Faruq Awan, DSP (Investigation Zone-II) Dr Najeeb and SDPO of Gulistan-i-Jauhar Waqar Malhan.
RED ALERT: Home Minister Rauf Siddiqui ordered a judicial inquiry into the killing of Allama Hasan Turabi and his nephew.
He also constituted an investigation team, comprising the IG Police, Sindh, and the CCPO, Karachi.
He condemned the suicide bombing and termed it a cowardly act.
According to a statement issued here on Friday, Mr Siddiqui said that ‘red alert’ had been declared in the province in view of the current security situation in the city.He said that 11 policemen and a mobile van had been deployed for the security of Allama Turabi.–Agencies
