TANK, July 7: Security forces came under rocket attacks at several places in South Waziristan on Thursday, witnesses and officials said on Friday.
They said eight rockets were fired on an army checkpoint at Landai Noor in the Shakai tehsil followed by firing with light weapons. One of the rockets hit the officers’ mess and damaged vehicles parked nearby, sources said, adding that windowpanes of the mess were smashed. Armymen also fired in the direction of the attackers.
The rockets were fired from the Bagari Sar mountain in the territory of Sperkai and Khojalkhel Wazir tribes.
The authorities served notices on the two tribes to surrender those involved in the attack.
Rockets were also fired on South Waziristan Scouts posted at Nawai Kot from the Bagari Sar mountain, official sources said, adding that no damage was caused.
At least 10 rockets and seven rocket-propelled grenades were fired on an army checkpoint in Tip Ghar from an area disputed between the Khoniakhel Wazir and Mahsud tribes.
Troops posted at Narai Oba in Wana tehsil also came under fire. The Karmazkhel tribe, from whose area the attack had been made, was issued a notice to produce the attackers.
