Four arrested for gang rape of mentally challenged youth

BAHAWALPUR: The Samasatta Police in Bahawalpur district claimed to have arrested four alleged rapists of a mentally challenged youth on Wednesday.

According to police sources, the victim A (21), a mentally challenged youth, went missing from his house on May 30. His mother, after searching for two days, found him in the Chak 13-BC area on Yazman Road, Bahawalpur.

On the mother’s complaint, police registered an FIR and sent the youth to the hospital for a medical examination. According to his mother, four persons of the same locality allegedly lured him to the jungle and gang-raped him.

After the initial medical report confirmed rape, the police claimed to have arrested the accused on Wednesday after a series of raids in the area.

MURDER: A woman was allegedly tortured to death by her in-laws in the suburbs of Mubarakpur of Ahmadpur East tehsil in Bahawalpur.

The police reached the scene after being informed and stopped the suspects from burying her body and shifted the body to the hospital for a postmortem examination.

According to police, Shakila Bibi (25) was married to Sufian about six years ago and the couple had a two-year-old son.

Police claimed the couple had a family dispute for the past two years and suspect Sufian wanted to contract a second marriage.

Police said that in his complaint, deceased’s brother Umer Hayat alleged that when he along with other family members reached her house for burial, they noticed some torture marks on her neck. He claimed that it appeared that she was strangled to death by her in-laws.

SHO Salim Akhtar of Nowshera Police shifted the body to the hospital for postmortem examination and arrested her husband Sufian, father-in-law Muhammad Usman and sister-in-law Saima Bibi.

Investigations were ongoing in the case.

SUICIDE: The Gaggo Police in Vehari district claimed to have solved the mystery of an unidentified body found floating in the canal a day ago and reached the conclusion that the deceased woman allegedly committed suicide by jumping in the canal 217/EB due to her divorce.

The body of the deceased was found floating in the canal and Rescue 1122 handed the body over to the police. The police, after investigation, identified the deceased as Rehana, a resident of Arifwala.

Police claimed that after her divorce, she was living with her parents and she committed suicide by jumping in the canal as she was distressed because of her divorce.

The Gaggo Police after completing legal formalities handed over the body to her parents.

Meanwhile, according to another police report, police guard in-charge Rana Mannan deployed at the Panjnad Headworks near Uch Sharif foiled an attempted suicide by a woman.

The woman was identified as Shazia Bibi and she allegedly tried to commit suicide due to financial stress by jumping in the river. Later, she was handed over to higher officials in the area.

ARRESTED: The Hasilpur City Police claimed to have arrested two suspects, Waqas and Syed Rizwan, who had escaped the police lock-up a day earlier.

A police spokesperson said that action against three suspended police officials was underway and they would be penalised for their alleged negligence.
