KARACHI: The provincial government on Wednesday notified the appointment of Barrister Syed Ghulam Shabbir Shah as the prosecutor general of Sindh.
Barrister Shah is a son of senior Pakistan Peoples Party leader and Sindh Local Government Minister Nasir Shah.
The law, parliamentary affairs and criminal prosecution department issued a notification a day after the Sindh cabinet approved his appointment as the province’s chief prosecutor.
His appointment was made with immediate effect and until further orders under the Sindh Criminal Prosecution Service (Constitution, Functions and Powers) Act, 2009.
Barrister Shah has previously served as an additional advocate general, Sindh. He has been a practicing advocate since 2009. He was enrolled at the Sindh High Court in 2010. He has been practicing in Supreme Court since 2017.
His appointment is termed a significant step towards further strengthening the prosecution system and enhancing the effective administration of justice in the province.
The post of the prosecutor general fell vacant in January 2025 when then PG Dr Syed Fiaz ul Hassan Shah was elevated to the Sindh High Court as an additional judge. Since then, Muntazir Mehdi had been serving as the acting prosecutor general.
