KARACHI: A suspected robber was gunned down by his accomplice when residents chased them after a robbery in Korangi late Tuesday night, police said on Wednesday. The officer said one motorcycle stolen from Steel Town and a cell phone were recovered from his custody.

Zaman Town SHO Ayaz Khan said two armed pillion riders snatched a cell phone from a citizen near Hanfia Masjid in Korangi 2 ½. As they were fleeing, the victim raised an alarm, alerting the area residents. As they chased the suspects, the muggers abandoned their motorcycle in a narrow street and started running. One of them resorted to firing on the mob but the bullet missed and hit his accomplice.

The wounded suspect was taken to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre where doctors pronounced him dead.
