ISLAMABAD: The Committee for Monitoring and Implementation of Austerity Measures on Tuesday extended the closing timing of shops, markets, malls and general retail to 9pm in view of the extended daylight and higher summer temperatures.

The decision was taken at a meeting of the committee presided over by Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The meeting also decided that restaurants, cafes and eateries will remain open till 11pm.

However, takeaway and delivery services will be exempted from the restrictions.

The committee decided to maintain the existing closing time of 10pm for marriage halls and event venues but exempted essential services, including pharmacies, hospitals, fuel stations, IT and telecom-related services, from the restrictions.

The committee directed provincial governments to ensure effective implementation of these guidelines in coordination with federal authorities.
