Lady health workers urged to play role in dengue control

LAKKI MARWAT: Health experts have underlined the importance of a proactive role by lady health workers and lady health supervisors in implementation of dengue control and prevention plan.

They said that women health workers were providing services to people at grassroots level and their role in community-based prevention of dengue was acknowledged.

They were speaking at a daylong training session here on Monday. The session was arranged by district health office to sensitise women health workers about their role in dengue control after emergence of a case in the district last week.

The session was attended by lady health supervisors (LHSs) and lady health workers (LHWs) from across the district. Entomologist Sadia Irfan and other experts said that being the frontline health professionals, lady health workers must play the role of health educators to educate community, especially womenfolk, in their respective areas about the symptoms, treatment and precautions of dengue.

Health experts highlight significance of timely reporting of field activities

They asked health workers to acquaint themselves with larval surveillance techniques and launch a community mobilisation campaign on preventive measures to contain dengue.

Ms Sadia also highlighted the significance of timely reporting of field activities by health staffers and their role in strengthening dengue prevention and control efforts.

DRIVE: The forest department launched an awareness drive to sensitise people about forest conservation and persuade them to protect forests from fires and timber smugglers.

The sub-divisional forest officer, Naqibullah Khan, inaugurated the drive on the premises of his office located in district headquarters complex Tajazai by distributing awareness pamphlets among the field staff on Monday.

Speaking on the occasion, he said that a comprehensive strategy was formulated to prevent forest fire incidents, protect forest resources and curb timber smuggling. He said that the department would use all available resources to stop fire incidents in forests and timber smuggling in the district.

BODY: Police found another bullet-riddled body of a civilian in Lakki Marwat on Monday.

A police official said that the body of a young man was lying in the fields near Manjiwala. He said that police shifted it to Government City Hospital to complete medico-legal formalities. “The deceased could not be identified immediately,” he added.

It merits a mention here that it was the second dead body recovered in the last two days. On May 30, a body was found in fields near Wanda Karim Khan in the limits of Shaheed Haibat Ali Khan police station of Darra Pezu town.
