Attock farmer secures second position in wheat yield competition

TAXILA: A farmer from Attock has brought pride to the district by securing second position across Punjab in the provincial wheat yield competition organised by the Agriculture Department.

According to officials, Shafiq Ahmed achieved an impressive wheat yield of 970.69 maunds per acre. In recognition of his outstanding performance, he will receive a 75-horsepower tractor as a prize.

A special ceremony was held on Monday to honour the farmer. Addressing the gathering as chief guest, Dean Faculty of Agriculture, Pir Mehr Ali Shah Arid Agriculture University Rawalpindi, Dr Tariq Mukhtar said that the Punjab government is giving unprecedented attention to the agriculture sector, resulting in agricultural growth and improving the economic condition of farmers across the province.

Divisional Director Agriculture Rawalpindi Syed Shahid Iftikhar Bukhari, Deputy Director Agriculture (Extension) Attock Dr Mohammad Javed, Assistant Director Agriculture Attock Tehsil Sabir Hussain, and the award-winning farmer also spoke on the occasion.

Prizes were also distributed among the top-performing farmers at the district level. Asghar Khan of Hazro, who secured first position in Attock district with a yield of 59.79 maunds per acre, received a cash prize of Rs1 million.
