LARKANA: A band of outlaws opened fire on a police patrol killing one constable and critically wounding his colleague in the Civil Lines area of the city on Sunday.
According to a statement issued by the district police, the two constables — Mujeebur Rehman Solangi and Naimatullah Memon — were on patrol duty when they were fired upon. They sustained critical gunshot wounds and were rushed to the Trauma Centre, Larkana, by locals.
Constable Mujeebur Rehman Solangi succumbed to his injuries during treatment, the statement said. Constable Naimatullah Memon’s condition was stated to be critical.
The statement said that the policemen were posted at the Madadgar 15 Base-1 and were on active patrol duty. During a hot pursuit of a band of criminals, they were fired upon in the Ghanti Phatak locality, said staff of the Larkana SSP office.
Soon after the incident, a strong contingent of police personnel drawn from various stations of the district was sent to the area, which was cordoned off and a manhunt was launched with the help of CCTV footages.
