QUETTA: Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) Parliamentary Leader Mir Saleem Khosa has said that the solution to Balochistan’s political, social, and security challenges lies in constitutional mechanisms, legislation, and the democratic process, warning that any attempts to create divisions or form private militias could undermine the province’s peace and unity.

Speaking at a press conference alongside Sheikh Jaffar Khan Mandokhail, provincial ministers Mir Shoaib Nosherwani, Mir Asim Kurd Gello, Raheela Hameed Khan Durrani, Parliamentary Secretary Mahmood Khan Lehri, lawmakers Hadiya Nawaz Baloch and Sheikh Zarak Mandokhail, and Adviser Naseem-ur-Rehman Mullahkhel, Mr Khosa said the provincial government was taking practical measures to establish peace, ensure transparent governance, promote balanced development, and guarantee the equitable distribution of resources.

He condemned the bomb blast targeting a train near Chaman Phatak and expressed solidarity with the victims and their families.

He acknowledged that residents of border areas continue to face numerous challenges, but stressed that lasting solution can only be achieved through legislation, constitutional channels and democratic institutions. He said that law-enforcement agencies would continue to fulfil their responsibility of protecting lives and property of the people.

Mir Saleem Khosa slams Achakzai’s remarks about private militia

Responding to remarks reportedly made by Mahmood Khan Achakzai during a public meeting in Chaman regarding formation of a private militia, Mr Khosa said such statements were controversial and such talks could create divisions within society.

He said that Mr Achakzai being a senior politician and an elected member of the National Assembly was expected to demonstrate responsible political conduct. He further alleged that attempts had been made during the Chaman gathering to create divisions between Pashtuns and Baloch, asserting that the Baloch people are patriotic and continue to contribute to the progress and stability of the country.

He emphasised that all political and social forces should pursue their objectives within the framework of the law and Constitution of the country.

The PML-N parliamentary leader said the coalition government in Balochistan was working collectively to address public issues and efforts would be made in the upcoming provincial budget to ensure fair distribution of funds so that all districts receive equal opportunities for development.

He stressed the need to understand Balochistan’s situation in the light of ground realities, noting that many lawmakers spent Eid holidays in their respective constituencies to have firsthand knowledge of the issues of the people. While acknowledging that the security situation remains challenging in several areas, he said the government was taking measures to restore peace and order in the province.

Mr Khosa claimed that development projects were underway across all districts of the province and that elected representatives had been entrusted by voters to resolve their problems.

On the issue of corruption, Mr Khosa said that while Balochistan had faced allegations of corruption in the past, the current government was implementing practical measures to promote transparency and eliminate corrupt practices.

Responding to a question regarding the reported “two-and-a-half-year formula” for power-sharing, Mr Khosa said the matter held no significance in Balochistan and that any such decision would fall within the jurisdiction of the federal government.
