PESHAWAR: At least eight more militants, including two Afghan nationals, were killed on the second day of a security operation in Darra Adamkhel, a subdivision of the Kohat district, security officials said on Saturday.
They claimed that the gunned down militants included the Afghan nationals who were members of the banned Tariq Gidar group, an affiliate of the proscribed Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP). Security officials said the operation was launched after receiving information about the presence of militants in the area, adding that it was still underway.
“Security forces have cordoned off the area, as the operation is still underway,” they said, adding that the operation would continue until the last terrorist was eliminated.
Two of them identified as Afghan nationals belonging to TTP affiliate, security officials say
A total of 13 militants have so far been killed in the operation since it started on Friday. According to security sources, they launched an intelligence-based operation following the information about the presence of terrorists in the area, when an exchange of fire took place with the militants. Five were killed on Friday while eight were killed on Saturday.
There was no official word about any casualties among security personnel.
TTP’s Tariq Gidar group is named after the militant commander Tariq Afridi from Darra Adamkhel, and has been involved in several militant activities in the area. Tariq Afridi died in 2012, reportedly killed by his relatives in the then Khyber Agency.
Darra Adamkhel — a previously Frontier Region (FR-Kohat) — borders Kohat and Peshawar districts.
