26 electric buses to run on Attock roads from June: minister

TAXILA: Punjab Minister for Transport and Mass Transit Bilal Akbar Khan has announced that 26 electric buses will start plying on different routes in Attock from June.

He was talking to newsmen after reviewing arrangements for charging, other facilities for the green buses on Attock on Sunday. Deputy Commissioner Rao Atif Raza, Additional Deputy Commissioner Revenue Waqar Aslam Marth, Assistant Commissioner Arif Qureshi, Secretary Regional Transport Authority Sardar Zaheer Ahmed Khan and other officials were also present.

The minister stated that the electric buses will be equipped with air-conditioning and Wi-Fi facilities. He reiterated the government’s commitment to modernising bus terminals across the province, ensuring high-standard facilities for commuters. He said the government has decided to add 1,100 more electric buses in all districts like Bahawalnagar, Attock, D.G. Khan and Gujrat.

He added that strict monitoring of transport fares set on the occasion of Eidul Azha was underway. He said that no one would be allowed to fleece the public as there was zero tolerance against excessive fares.

He added that during a recent inspection in Lahore, action was taken against transporters involved in fare irregularities. As a result, 18 vehicles were sealed, cases were registered against eight to nine transporters, and the concerned administrator was suspended.

Earlier, the minister attended a meeting to finalise arrangements for plying the green buses in Attock.

The DC informed the minister about the current status of public transport, general bus stands and other related matters. He noted that all essential facilities had been ensured at bus stands, which were regularly inspected.
