RAWALPINDI: Punjab Minister for Transport Bilal Akbar Khan and Deputy Commissioner Dr Hassan Waqar Cheema on Sunday visited the General Bus Stand and various D-Class bus stands to inspect the arrangement for the passengers who went back to their native towns during Eidul Azha.
During the visit, a detailed review was taken of the facilities provided to passengers, implementation of fares, cleanliness, traffic management and security arrangements.
Provincial Minister for Transport Punjab Bilal Akbar Khan said on this occasion that as per the instructions of the Punjab chief minister, providing safe, comfortable and affordable travel facilities to people during Eidul Azha is the top priority of the government.
He said citizens traveling to celebrate Eid with their loved ones would not face any kind of difficulty. He strictly directed the transporters to ensure full implementation of the fixed fares while indiscriminate action should be taken against overcharging, overloading and illegal transport.
The provincial transport minister specifically directed that strict implementation of the 5pc quota allocated for disabled passengers in public transport should be ensured so that maximum convenience and relief could be provided to special people during their travel.
He said the dignity, convenience and safe travel of special people were among the priorities of the Punjab government and no negligence would be tolerated in this regard.
Deputy Commissioner Dr Hassan Waqar Cheema said the district administration was continuously monitoring bus stands on the occasion of Eid so that timely and quality facilities could be provided to the passengers.
