Pakistan bag two golds at Asian Junior Squash

PANZHIHUA (China): Nauman Khan and Ahmad Rayyan Khalil earned two gold medals for Pakistan in the Asian Junior Individual Squash Championships that ended in Panzhihua on Sunday.

In an impressive performance, Pakistan clinched two gold, one silver and two bronze medals at the championships from a squad of eight players.

Nauman defeated India’s Shiven Agarwal in four games to secure the U-17 boys title.

After losing the opening game, Nauman responded strongly to complete a 10-12, 11-7, 11-2, 11-5 victory in a match that lasted 46 minutes.

In the boys U-15 decider, Ahmad produced a straight-games win over Malaysia’s PNG Vidhurran Ruthiran winning the contest 11-7, 11-3, 11-4 in under half an hour to secure Pakistan’s second title at the championship.

Pakistan’s Mahnoor Ali earned the U-15 girls silver after losing the decider to Ziyuan Yin of China 12-10, 11-9, 12-10.

The Pakistan contingent obtained two bronze through Mohammad Umair Arif (U-17 boys) and Mohammad Sohail Adnan (U-15 boys) after both reached the semi-final in their respective categories.

Elsewhere in the continental championship, Pakistan players Abdullah Nawaz and Mustafa Khan advanced to the quarter-finals, while Sehrish Ali made it to the third round before exiting the competition.
