PESHAWAR: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Police Chief Zulfiqar Hameed has said that the Bannu region police were fighting on the front lines against terrorists to establish peace, and fulfilling the police’s security and operational needs is the department’s top priority.

He stated this while dispatching modern gadgets to the Bannu police — a step to further strengthen the police.

A statement issued from the police chief’s office said that the modern combat equipment was being sent to Bannu police from various districts and reserves at the Central Police Office (CPO).

He said that 50 state-of-the-art devices had been provided to Bannu police, adding that the equipment included 15 SKUA devices, 31 Thermal Weapon Sights and 20 night-vision devices. He said that five standard quadcopters and an advanced surveillance quadcopter had also been provided to the Bannu police for surveillance.

“To counter drone attacks and aerial threats, two state-of-the-art anti-drone guns have also been provided,” he said, adding that the procurement process for advanced thermal imaging cameras for police in Bannu was also in its final stages.

The statement said that the advanced SKUA devices were withdrawn from several districts, including two each from Mardan, Charsadda, Abbottabad, Mansehra, three each from Upper Chitral and the reserves in CPO, while one device was withdrawn from Haripur and sent to Bannu.

The thermal weapon sights, highly effective for targeting terrorists hiding in the dark, have also been handed over to Bannu police. Five thermal weapon sights were withdrawn from Mardan, four each from Charsadda, Swabi, Swat and Buner; two each from Mansehra, Upper Kohistan, Lower Kohistan, Kolai Palas, and Torghar.
