SOUTH WAZIRISTAN: The police launched a crackdown here the other day on transporters overcharging passengers traveling via the Dera Ismail Khan-Wana route.
The action was taking following public complaints that transporters were fleecing passengers going home to celebrate Eidul Azha with their families.
During the crackdown, the police issued challans to several passenger vehicles for overcharging commuters and flouting the official fare list.
Officials said that the passengers, who were overcharged, got a refund during the inspection.
Transporters and drivers were warned to strictly follow the official fare list or else stern action would be taken against them.
A police spokesperson said the passengers had complained that drivers were charging around Rs5,000 to Rs6,000 per passenger instead of the officially fixed Rs2,000.
The police teams from Spin Dam police station, Tanai checkpost, City police station Wana and Wana traffic police carried out joint operations at various points along the route.
District police officer Mohammad Tahir Shah Wazir said the police would ensure implementation of the official fare list to facilitate passengers and to stop overcharging commuters during Eid days.
