LAHORE: The Lahore High Court on Wednesday issued notices to the prosecution on an appeal filed by PTI leader and social media activist Sanam Javed seeking suspension of her sentence and release in a May 9 case.
A two-member bench headed by Justice Syed Shahbaz Ali Rizvi heard the activist’s appeal challenging her conviction in a case of attacking and torching Shadman police station.
The appeal argued that the appellant was neither a nominated accused in the FIR nor was there any evidence against her, including call data records (CDR) or CCTV footage.
It stated that contradictions existed in the statements of prosecution witnesses and that the anti-terrorism court had ignored material facts while awarding the sentence.
The appeal asked the court to suspend the sentence and order release of the activist.
The bench issued notices to the prosecution for submission of reply and adjourned the hearing till June 2.
