PESHAWAR: Two people were killed and 11 injured in rain-related incidents in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Monday, said the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA).
The Pakistan Meteorological Department forecast dust and thunderstorms along with rain with occasional gaps in upper parts of the country until May 23.
According to the PDMA’s report, two deaths were reported in rain-related incidents last night from Mardan.
Meanwhile, four people were injured in Battagram, one in Mardan and six in Swat.

Four houses, including three in Shangla and one in Battagram, were destroyed. Twenty-seven houses were partially damaged in Shangla, two in Swat, five in Torghar and one each in Upper Dir and Mardan, according to the report.
A school also suffered damage due to adverse weather in Shangla, the data showed.
According to the PDMA’s daily weather report, the highest amount of rainfall in KP over the past 24 hours was recorded in Kalam at 12mm, followed by 11 in Chitral, 8mm in Malam Jabba, 7mm in Saidu Sharif and Balakot and 4mm each in Kakul and Mardan. Drosh received 2mm of rain while 1mm rain was recorded in Parachinar, Timergara, Mirkhani and Dir.
The Pakistan Meteorological Department earlier said that a westerly wave was likely to approach northwestern parts of the country on May 18 (night) and it was likely to persist in upper parts of the country until May 23.
Under the influence of this weather system, dust and thunderstorms and rain with isolated hailstorm is expected in parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, including Chitral, Dir, Swat, Kalam, Shangla, Buner, Kohistan, Malakand, Battagram, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Balakot, Haripur, Swabi, Mardan, Nowshera, Charsadda, Peshawar, Bajaur, Mohmand, Orakzai, Khyber, Kohat, Kurram, Hangu, Waziristan, Bannu, Lakki Marwat and Karak; in Punjab areas, including Murree, Galiyat, Islamabad/Rawalpindi, Attock, Chakwal, Jhelum, Khushab, Joharabad, Bhakkar, Layyah, Sargodha, Mianwali, Faisalabad, Jhang, Lahore, Sheikhupura, Okara, Gujranwala, Hafizabad, Mandi Bahuddin, Sialkot and Narowal; in parts of Gilgit-Baltistan, including Diamir, Astore, Ghizer, Skardu, Hunza, Gilgit, Guanche and Shigar, and Azad Jammu and Kashmir’s areas, including Neelum valley, Muzaffarabad, Poonch, Hattian, Bagh, Haveli, Sudhanoti, Kotli, Bhimber and Mirpur, until May 23 with occasional gaps, it said.
The PMD warned that the windstorm and lightning could damage weak structures, including electrical poles, billboards and solar panels, during the period.
It also advised farmers to manage their activities in accordance with the dust storm and rain prediction.
In Mardan, two people, including a man and his wife, were killed, while their teenaged son was injured in a roof collapse incident in the Lundkhwar area.
Rescue1122 officials said the couple was killed after being trapped under the debris, while their son was injured.
The Rescue 1122 medical team rushed to the spot to provide first aid to the injured before shifting him, along with the deceased, to a hospital in Lundkhwar.
The deceased were identified as 60-year-old Shah Wazir and his wife, while 18-year-old Sadiq was injured.
In Shangla, gusty winds coupled with rain wreaked havoc in the district as 86 houses, two cars and a school were damaged in different tehsils in the early hours of Monday.
According to the district administration, the windstorm hit various tehsils of the district, including Chakesar, Alpuri and Kana, where 86 houses, two cars and a school were damaged.
The administration said 11 of the houses were completely damaged, while 75 others were partially affected by the storm.
According to the administration, most houses with steel-sheet rooftops were blown away by the strong winds.
Locals told Dawn that trees fell on roads in tehsil Alpuri and tehsil Kana, causing damage to houses and power poles.
They said Faisal Mohammad had parked his cars on the link road near his house and a huge tree fell on them, damaging them badly.
The Alpuri-Bisham road was blocked at Matta Aghwan after a massive tree fell on it. However, it was reopened by Rescue 1122 workers after chopping down the tree.
The power supply was disrupted in Alpuri and Kana tehsils in Shangla as electricity pylons fell due to the windstorm.
