Religious scholar shot dead in Multan

LAHORE: A religious scholar was found shot dead in the head at his home under mysterious circumstances in Multan on Monday morning.

Syed Azharul Haq of Basti Mochiwala, Rangeelpur, was sitting in his drawing room in the morning when a man approached him.

The unidentified suspect pulled out his gun and shot two rounds in the head and fled the scene. The victim suffered critical wounds and died on the spot. Haq who belonged to Dera Ismail Khan had shifted to Multan some 20 years ago.

The deceased was a religious scholar at a mosque in the city and was removed by the administration of the mosque over religious differences.

The deceased later joined another mosque in Thokar area of Rangeelpur where he started working as a Peer and had a large number of followers .
