Private electrician burnt alive working on high-tension pole

BAHAWALPUR: A private electrician was electrocuted while working on a high-tension pole near Adda Haji Pul of Saadullah feeder near Jalalpur Peerwala on Wednesday due to alleged negligence of Mepco officials of Lodhran division.

According to reports, a Mepco official suspended the electricity supply to the feeder so that electrician Muhammad Jamil and his helper could work on the high-tension pole.

Jamil, a private electrician, climbed on the pole and was working there when the electricity was restored.

Jamil, a father of four, was burnt alive by the live electricity wires and his body remained hanging on the pole for hours.

A large number of area people gathered at the scene, while his family members also reached the spot.

A Mepco spokesperson told Dawn that Safety Director Muhammad Sohail would conduct an inquiry into the tragedy after receiving a report of the incident by Lodhran Mepco SDO.

However, the spokesperson initially dismissed the reports that any Mepco employee was involved in the incident.
