KARACHI: Pakistan has set up a new record in her trade with the world by accumulating a surplus of about Rs 80 crore during the last financial year (ended March, 1951). …[T]he country’s achievement … is unique… . Its most outstanding feature is the fact that the country’s exports, mostly by sea … were worth … more than double the sea-borne exports during the preceding financial year. The figures stood roughly at Rs 188 crore for 1950/51 and Rs 91 crore for 1949/50.
According to the Commerce Minister, Mr Fazlur Rahman, Pakistan’s trade … excluding Bharat … from July, 1950, to February, 1951, showed a surplus of about Rs 50 crore (Exports Rs 130.01 crore, imports 80.5 crore). He estimated that in her … trade of about Rs 55 crore with Bharat, mostly by land routes, from April, 1950, to February, 1951, Pakistan had a surplus of about Rs 10 crore.
