ISLAMABAD: The National Assembly today [May 12] passed three Bills, including the one relating to the abolition of Sardari system in the country, before it was adjourned sine die. The system of Sardari (Abolition) Bill, which was earlier deferred till the next session, but was taken up today with its second reading reopened, will replace an Ordinance promulgated by the President on April 8 last year. — News agencies

[Meanwhile, as reported by a correspondent from Rawalpindi,] the plenary session of the three-day Pakistan-India talks, which began here this morning [May 12], identified the items for discussion and allocated them to three committees of experts. According to a joint statement … one committee will deal with the question of civil aviation, another with land communications while the third will review the existing trade, shipping and travel agreements. … Meanwhile, the Foreign Secretary of Pakistan, Mr Agha Shahi, and his Indian counterpart, Mr J.S. Mehta, who met exclusively twice, exchanged views over resumption of diplomatic relations and other bilateral matters. The leaders of the two delegations reaffirmed the common belief in the process of normalisation.
