HAJJ is fast approaching, and millions of pilgrims, young and old, men and women, speaking different languages, will gather in Saudi Arabia. The Saudi government tries to facilitate the stay of all pilgrims despite the immense challenges related to the task of managing what practically is a sea of humanity in one place.

To maintain due safety and order, the authorities issue clear directives and make special arrangements, particularly regarding transportation and access to sacred places. However, it is unfortunate that some pilgrims do not adhere to these rules and regulations.

Due to the overwhelming number of visitors, only those in ihram are permitted entry into the Mataf, the area surrounding the Kaaba. Yet, some individuals wear ihram merely to bypass security. Such actions contradict the very spirit of sincerity and truthfulness that the religion teaches. When unnecessary crowds gather in the Mataf, it often deprives genuine worshippers of the space needed to perform Umrah peacefully. We must always consider the comfort and ease of fellow pilgrims.

Similarly, at the Hajr-i-Aswad, it is often observed that people push and rush despite repeated requests from security personnel to maintain order. Such a behaviour goes against the teachings of patience and compassion.

With the widespread and continued use of smartphones, another concerning trend has emerged. Many pilgrims seem more focused on taking photographs in front of the Kaaba and sharing them on social media. Similar scenes are witnessed at the Roza-i-Rasool.

All intending pilgrims should follow the rules, regulations and guidelines provided by the relevant authorities. It is our utmost duty to behave with dignity, humility and patience, presenting ourselves as people seeking forgiveness and mercy.
